Your First Visit and Consultation

When you visit Monni Chiropractic Care for the first time the Chiropractor will start with discussing a little bit about you and your general health. You will be asked about your past health history not just about the pain you are suffering. To ensure that chiropractic care is appropriate for your complaint your chiropractor will need to know about previous and current health conditions. You may feel that some of the questions are irrelevant, but they are important. If your condition cannot be treated by chiropractic, your Chiropractor will refer you to either your GP or to an appropriate, relevant specialist.

1 Examination

Once a full case history has been taken, your Chiropractor will examine you (nerves, muscles and joints). It also may be necessary to perform routine checks on your heart, lungs and abdomen to rule out any other causes of your pain.
A gown will be made available for you to wear for the examination but if you prefer you may bring shorts or tracksuit trousers. Please ask for advice on what to bring to wear when you make your appointment if you are unsure.
After the examination your Chiropractor may offer to start treatment immediately. However, it may be delayed a day or two if an x-ray needs to be taken or further information needs to be obtained from your GP.

2 Report of Findings

Before starting your treatment, your Chiropractor will tell you, in clear, simple language what is wrong with you, what can be done about it and what you should expect when you receive your first adjustment or treatment. You may also be told about any exercises or changes to your lifestyle or diet that may be beneficial.

3 Treatment

Chiropractic treatment mainly involves safe and gentle, specific spinal manipulation to free joints in the spine and other parts of the body. You may or may not hear an audible 'pop'. This is simply the sound of bubbles of gas popping in the fluid of the joint as the pressure is released. You may also receive soft tissue work. This involves massage, trigger point treatment and acupuncture.
‚ÄčThere is, however, no instant cure and some patients may need several treatments. Some patients may experience temporary symptoms such as pain and soreness around the areas being treated. This is a common reaction to chiropractic treatment and normally resolves within 24 hours.
